I am sure you will have a wonderful experience learning how to write, publish and market your own book. In 1973, I took interest in a new aviation sport; couldn't find a book on the subject so I sat down and wrote one. After four months of writing and intense research I went coast-to-coast, and then I delivered the manuscript to the printer. So far, Hang Gliding has sold over 130,000 copies-a "best seller"! Many other famous books got their start being published by the author; some still are in print. Self-publishing is an early American tradition. In the early days of the New World, the person with the printing press was after the author, publisher, printer and bookshop. Some people think that most of those who write quality manuscripts and self-publish do so because several publishers have turned them down. That is occasionally true. However, many people today weigh the advantages and disadvantages of selling out to a publisher and make an educated decision to publish themselves. Those who self-publish find they make more money, get to the press sooner and keep control of their work.
